Exploring Sioux County
It was a grand day. Temperature in the low 70s, sunny sky, and driving a brand almost-new pickup, Firemann and I headed south of Mandan on a tour of Sioux County.
The terrain gets more rugged as you head south on Highway 6.
On the hilltop in the distance is one of the ubiquitous mechanical dinosaurs the
ranchers use to adorn the landscape. This one was a separator, Firemann
said.
My chief navigator, Firemann Legreid.
Our first stop was Breien, just north of the Sioux County border. There
wasn't much to see and few inhabitants. Next we drove to Porcupine.

There were unique boundary and driveway markers in Porcupine.
Next we crossed the Cannonball River to what used to be the town of Shields.
