Sunny San Diego

The locals said I hit a good week in February.  The temperatures were in the high 60s all week, with lots of sunshine, and light breezes.  One of my favorite haunts in San Diego is Balboa Park.  Pam and I visited the park on Earth Day a few years back and truly enjoyed all of the activities and museums.  A few years earlier, Reed and I were strolling through the south end of the park when we came upon a band playing on a small stage while dozens of listners lolled about on the lush grassy hillside.  Turns out, the band featured one Don Henley who favored the audience with some of the Eagles' songs he wrote.

So my experiences in Balboa Park have been uniformly good ones.  My latest visit was no exception.

balboa11.JPG (89577 bytes)  On Wednesday, I did get to see most of the planetarium presentation which featured a local astronomy professor who showed us the night sky and pointed out various planets and constellations.  I think I might be able to find Orion now but couldn't do it in San Diego because they have so much "light pollution," as the professor called it.  I had to leave a little early and hustle two blocks away to The Old Globe Theatre to see Ellen Burstyn in the "Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All."  It was a one-actor play; Burstyn spoke, virtually non-stop for a little over one hour, a massive memorization feat, IMHO.

On Tuesday night, I drove out to Cabrillo Point.  I'd been there before with Pam but we had been rushed for time then.  It offered a spectacular view of the San Diego harbor.
