Dale's Birthday Bash
This
This the crew Jim golfs with [except for Chuck and Potter]. Left to right: Leon
Ripplinger, Nick Kjos, Bruce Mikkelson, Curt Dahme, Dennis Steele, Dale Hoerauf, Dave Cantrell, and Scott Halvorson.
Dale's 50th
birthday celebration started with a round of golf at Hawktree GC, the 19th
top-rated public course in the country--and Dale picked up the green fees!
Afterwards, we gathered at Dale's house for food and fun. At right, Pam
and Lael put on a skit and adorned Dale with several ties depicting the many
roles Dale assumes in the course of an ordinary week.
Jim Potter,
Dennis Steele, Bruce Mikkelson, and Leon Ripplinger were the big
"wieners," shown here with their first place prize.
Prizes were
awarded to the best scramble teams. Jim, Nick, and Curt shot a respectable
8-under par but took second. Here, they show off their prize, a
sleeve
of golf balls. Clever, Lael.
Lael, Dale, and
daughter Angie pose with Dale's birthday cake. The healthy lad blew out the
candles quickly before the Fire Department arrived.
Dave Cantrell,
seated, is the frequent target of jokes about playing from the
"Senior" or gold tees and for the uncanny bounces his balls take from
the trees to the fairways when he hits a wayward shot. To memorialize
Dave's good fortune, Dale and Jim performed a song in his honor.
Mr. Sandman
[with apologies to The Andrews Sisters]
Mr. Sandman, he loves the game
he takes our money; he has no shame
at the gold’s he takes his stance
Mr. Sandman won’t give us a chance
Mr. Sandman,
has more luck than he should
our mishit balls go deep in the woods
a Cantrell bounce we’d surely take
Mr. Sandman give us a break
Mr. Sandman,
you take our yen
your handicap’s a 15
it should be a ten
so give us something we can cheer
Mr. Sandman, buy us - you sure can afford to buy us - Mr. Sandman buy us a beer
