Alison Krause, The Beatles, and The Remains
Prairie Knights Casino may be in the middle of nowhere but they attract some great entertainment. A case in point was the recent concert by Alison Krause and Union Station.
They've been together for many years, and sound like it. There wasn't a
lot of talking or joke telling, just solid bluegrass performances.
Their pickin' style and harmony went over quite well as they charmed a packed
house, the largest crowd we've seen at the casino.
A week later, Dale, Lael, and Angie Hoerauf treated us to a concert featuring The Backbeats, a Beatles Review band. They not only played the music of my all-time favorite group but were excellent impersonators.
The first set featured the mop top lads playing the songs that brought them to
public's attention in 1963 and 1964: "I Want to Hold Your Hand,"
"She Loves You," and "Twist and Shout." They also did
a mean version of Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven."
In their second set, the Backbeats donned Sgt. Pepper outfits and did some of
the songs from that album as well as "Help!" "Day Tripper,"
and "Strawberry Fields."
Most enjoyable to me was the way "John Lennon" stood, slightly
bowlegged and bobbing as he played. These guys had all of the mannerisms
down pat.
So what do The Beatles and yours truly have in common? The Remains, of course.
The Remains I've had enough and want to go home
