Packers Meet Vikings Again
The Vikings spoiled the opening event in the newly renovated Lambeau Field in
the Packers' first game of the season by beating the Pack 30-25. It was
the start of a shaky season for the Pack. Nevertheless, when Dave
Cantrell, far left, said a friend of his had four tickets to the rematch in
Minneapolis, well, who could resist? A shuttle took us from our hotel to
and from the game. What a deal.
The Sunday night game was carried live on ESPN and the fans were in full costume
for the event.
Dale Hoerauf and I pose outside the dome where the party was in full swing.
This Viking fan was eager to show me his tee shirt which said "Packers
Suck" and had a logo not fit for family viewing.
Inside, dignitaries wandered the sideline behind the Vikings bench. Here,
former Vikings coach, Bud Grant, gets an earful from current franchise owner,
Red McCombs. Red made the headlines last week after chewing out the
Vikings players when they lost their first game of the season to take them to 6
- 1, their best start in years.
According to reliable Packer sources, the Metrodome limits the number of seats
they will sell to Wisconsin outlets because if they did not, there would be more
Packer fans than Viking fans at the game. I would estimate 1/3 of the
folks at this sellout game wore green and yellow.
This is Larry York, a retired referee who must have excellent connections
because he got us tickets in the second row of the Vikings end zone. It
doesn't get much better than that.
